1/144 Dassault MD.450 OURAGAN - Miniwing

1/144 Dassault MD.450 OURAGAN - Miniwing

Miniwings have released their next batch of kits, covering this nice looking early European fighter-bombe.

The Dassault M.D.450 Ouragan (French: Hurricane) was the first French-designed jet fighter-bomber to enter production, playing a key role in resurgence of the French aviation industry after World War II. The Ouragan was operated by France, India, Israel and El Salvador. While in Israeli service, it participated in both the Suez Crisis and the Six-Day War.

Detailed design work on the new aircraft, which was given the designation M.D. (Marcel Dassault) 450, began in October 1947, with construction beginning on 7 April 1948 at Dassault's factory in Saint-Cloud. The Ouragan was smaller and lighter than the Thunderjet and had a thin wing similar to the one used by the Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star.

The kit conforms to the Miniwing signature format and quality,  being cleanly cast and no air bubbles. The panel lines on fuselage are very finely, and also provided is both a clear resin and a vac-form canopy - also, included is a set of vinyl masks for painting the canopy. Did i mention the box, well there Miniwing have introduced a new modern letterbox style box - with full colour painting options on rear.

There are two decal options are provided for aircraft :

  • Armee de l'air, 2e Escadre de Chasse, Dijon, 1954 (aircraft #207 of 1954 "Patrouille de France"
  • Indian Air Force, 29 Sqn "Scorpions", 1958

1-144 Bundesmarine LSM 'Eidechse' (Lizard)Class - Revell

1-144 Bundesmarine LSM 'Eidechse'(Lizard) Class - Revell

What's happening at Revell, they seem to have something in the water and are suddenly bringing some new and interesting item to the scale (Will we see the Sycamore as a separate release, as well as the Vehicles?)

Ok, so clearly Revell are releasing the WWII LSM as a post war German Navy boat, with not just vehicles but an early helicopter!

This particular boat appears to be the 'Krokodil (L 750)', which served in the Bundesmarine between September 5, 1958 to December 15, 1972 (maybe other decals will be provided? Used as a Command and medical ship.

1/144 YAK-23 "FLORA" - MIKR-MIR (MICRO-MIR)

1/144 YAK-23 "FLORA" - MIKR-MIR (MICRO-MIR)
The Yakovlev Yak-23 (in Russian Як-23, USAF/DoD reporting name "Type 28"),[1] NATO reporting name "Flora"[2][3] was a jet fighter developed in the USSR in the 1940s and used in the early 1950s. The Yak-23 was developed as a simple lightweight jet fighter, on Yakovlev's own initiative. It was a development of the earlier Yak-15 and Yak-17 fighters, retaining their non-conventional layout with a jet engine in the fuselage nose and exhaust under the cockpit, but the construction was all new. Its wings were derived from the Yak-19. The Yak-23 used a Soviet copy of the British Rolls-Royce Derwent V turbojet engine, produced as the Klimov RD-500. It first flew on July 8, 1947.

1/144 Douglas F4D-1 SKYRAY (USN) - MINIWING

1/144 Douglas F4D-1 SKYRAY (USN) -  MINIWING

The Douglas F4D Skyray (later redesignated F-6 Skyray) was an American carrier-based supersonic fighter/interceptor built by the Douglas Aircraft Company. Although it was in service for a relatively short time and never entered combat, it was notable for being the first carrier-launched aircraft to hold the world's absolute speed record, at 752.943 mph,[1] and was the first United States Navy and United States Marine Corps fighter that could exceed Mach 1 in level flight.

The kit conforms to the Miniwing signature format and quality,  being cleanly cast and no air bubbles. The panel lines on fuselage are very finely cast has been the trend with more recent Miniwing releases, which should please many people.

There are two decal options are provided for aircraft serving :

  • VF-213 "Black Lions" - USS Lexington, 1958
  • VF(AW) - NAS North Island, 1958

There are drop tanks and bombs provided, in order to arm up your Skyray, and the is now the common option with Minwing kits to provide both a clear resin and a vac-form canopy - also, included is a set of vinyl masks for paining the canopy!

Available: October 2015

These are more curious as these do not form part of a former release, neither are they a reboxing of any other manufacturer that I am a ware off. So to-date would seem to be a bit of a departure for Revell.

1/144 Curtis -40B/C "Flying Tigers" by AFV Club

1/144 Curtis P-40B/C by AFV Club
While AFV Club is a well established producer of large scale AFVs this is their first adventure in 1/144.
It seems to be a simple inexpensive kit, that paints up nicely, and of a item that is not to readily available.

The 1st American Volunteer Group (AVG) of the Chinese Air Force in 1941–1942, nicknamed the Flying Tigers, was composed of pilots from the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC), Navy (USN), and Marine Corps (USMC), recruited under presidential authority and commanded by Claire Lee Chennault. The shark-faced nose art of the Flying Tigers remains among the most recognizable image of any individual combat aircraft or combat unit of World War II.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_China_Air_Force

The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was an American single-engined, single-seat, all-metal fighter and ground-attack aircraft that first flew in 1938. The P-40 design was a modification of the previous Curtiss P-36 Hawk which reduced development time and enabled a rapid entry into production and operational service. The Warhawk was used by most Allied powers during World War II, and remained in frontline service until the end of the war. It was the third most-produced American fighter, after the P-51 and P-47;

1/144 Blackburn Beverley - Mikro-Mir (Mikr-Mir)

1/144 Blackburn Beverly - Mikro-Mir (Mikr-Mir)
Another interesting left field kit from Mikr-Mir, of a much under represented but instrumental British Transport Aircraft.

See the kit develop on the  Brit Modeller forum postings:
http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234973041-blackburn-beverley-1144/

The Blackburn B-101 Beverley was a 1950s British heavy transport aircraft built by Blackburn and General Aircraft and flown by squadrons of Royal Air Force Transport Command from 1957 until 1967.

The aircraft was a high-wing cantilever monoplane with a fixed undercarriage. The large fuselage had a tail boom fitted with a tailplane with twin fins. The tail boom allowed access to the rear of the fuselage through removable clamshell doors. A 36 ft (11 m) main fuselage space was supplemented by passenger accommodation in the tail boom. The main cargo hold could accommodate 94 troops, with another 36 in the tail boom. In operation, it was regarded as "ungainly but highly effective" and was described by Air Chief Marshal Sir Robert Freer as "like something out of the Ark, but it was a superb supply dropper.”

Te aircraft was designed for carrying large bulk loads and landing them on rough or imperfect runways, or mere dirt strips. It could trace its design back to the GAL49 Hamilcar glider of the Second World War. When it entered service it was the largest aircraft in the Royal Air Force (RAF). It had a large interior cargo area split into two levels which amounted to around 6,003 ft³ (170 m³) of space. Paratroopers in the upper passenger area jumped through a hatch in the base of the boom just in front of the leading edge of the tailplane. Paratroopers in the main body exited through side doors.

The Beverley was equipped with toilets, which were situated in the tail beyond the paratroop hatch located on the floor of the tail boom. One fatality was caused by a serviceman who fell twenty feet to the ground when exiting the toilet, unaware that the paratroop hatch had been opened. Modifications were made to prevent the toilet doors from being opened when the paratroop hatch was open.[3]

In total, 49 of the aircraft were produced, with the last one being manufactured in 1958, and final retirement from RAF service was in 1967.

1/144 F-15 , F-117A and Attacker FB.1/ FB2 Upgrade Sets - Shelf Oddity

1/144 F-15 , F-117A and Attacker FB.1/ FB2 Upgrade Sets - Shelf Oddity

Shelf Oddity have also produced a range of great looking PE sets for 144th scale aircraft available.

An extensive set for Dragon’s F-117A kit - new canopy frame, air intake meshes, landing gear doors and flat exhaust nozzles are included.

A generic F-15 set is quite universal, as it allows for backdating your Revell F-15E kit to F-15B/D version. While more adventurous modellers can go as far as F-15A/C with it, or could also use some of the parts supplied with other manufacturers kits.

And, a great set dedicated to a recent Miniwing release - the Supermarine Attacker FB.1/FB.2.

1/144 Dassault Mirage III and Cheetah - Foxone

1/144 Mirage and Cheetah - Foxone
Dassault Mirage III
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dassault_Mirage_III

The first major production model of the Mirage series, the Mirage IIIC, first flew in October 1960. The IIIC was largely similar to the IIIA, though a little under a half meter longer and brought up to full operational fit. The IIIC was a single-seat interceptor, with an Atar 09B turbojet engine.

The Mirage IIIC was armed with twin 30 mm DEFA revolver-type cannon, fitted in the belly with the gun ports under the air intakes. Early Mirage IIIC production had three stores pylons, one under the fuselage and one under each wing, but another outboard pylon was quickly added to each wing, for a total of five. It was also possible to carry bombs on a sleek supersonic tank that also had bomb carrying capacity. The outboard pylon was intended to carry an AIM-9B Sidewinder air-to-air missile, later replaced by the Matra R550 Magic and also was armed with the radar guided R530 Missile on the center line pylon.

It was developed as a major upgrade of the Dassault Mirage III by the Atlas Aircraft Corporation (later Denel Aviation) in South Africa and is based on the IAI Kfir.[2] Three different variants were created, 16 dual-seat Cheetah D, 16 single-seat Cheetah E and 38 single-seat Cheetah C. The Cheetah Es were retired in 1992, and the Cheetah Cs and Cheetah Ds in April 2008, being replaced by the Saab Gripen. A limited number are still operated in South Africa as flight test aircraft.
