1/144 DH Sea Vixen FAW.2 (Preview) - Miniwings

1/144 DH Sea Vixen FAW.2 (Preview) - Miniwings
Not that I am biased, but it's good to see a great british aircraft from the 1950-60s.

The aircraft was designated the DH.110 by de Havilland; a twin-engined all-weather fighter, development of which started in 1946 following discussions with the Admiralty of its requirements for jet all-weather fighters.[1] De Havilland's design shared the twin-boom layout of the de Havilland Vampire, had an all-metal structure and featured swept wings. It was to be powered by two Rolls-Royce Avon engines, each capable of 7,500 lbf (33 kN) of thrust, which would allow the aircraft to be supersonic in a shallow dive.[1] The DH 110 was the first British two seat combat aircraft to achieve supersonic speed.[2] Armament was to be four 30 mm ADEN cannons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Sea_Vixen

I would be great to see a Venom or Vampire too...

1/144 F-Toys Commemorative Schemes

1/144 F-Toys Commemorative Schemes

I must confess that I saw the AH-1S some time back on a blog and had not understood what was quite going on, now however it is a plain as day!

F-Toys are to release a set of existing molds, but with special commemorative designs and/or Airshow/Festival schemes. Some you will have seen before from other manufacturers no doubt, others I think do offer something new for those who collect special paint work and modern aicraft (especially modern aircraft in Japanese Service..

Due: November 2013

1/144 Avro Canada VZ-9 Avrocar - Brengun

1/144 Avro Canada VZ-9 Avrocar - Brengun

Brengun have released an interesting kit in the form of f the experimental  VZ-9 Avrocar, a mixed media kit of resin and PE.

The Avro Canada VZ-9 Avrocar was a VTOL aircraft developed by Avro Aircraft Ltd. (Canada) as part of a secret U.S. military project carried out in the early years of the Cold War. The Avrocar intended to exploit the Coandă effect to provide lift and thrust from a single "turborotor" blowing exhaust out the rim of the disk-shaped aircraft to provide anticipated VTOL-like performance. In the air, it would have resembled a flying saucer.

Originally designed as a fighter-like aircraft capable of very high speeds and altitudes, the project was repeatedly scaled back over time and the U.S. Air Force eventually abandoned it. Development was then taken up by the U.S. Army for a tactical combat aircraft requirement, a sort of high-performance helicopter. In flight testing, the Avrocar proved to have unresolved thrust and stability problems that limited it to a degraded, low-performance flight envelope; subsequently, the project was cancelled in September 1961.

Well, It would seem someone at Brengun has a sense of humour and following their 1/72 Skyraider toilet bomber, now it is the turn on 1/144 and a PE and resin conversion

1/144 Geschutzwagen IVb in ABS-L - Kampfflieger by CGD

1/144 Geschutzwagen IVb in ABS-L - Kampfflieger by CGD
Towards the end of September 1939, Krupp designed the "first real self-propelled artillery piece", the Sonderkraftfahrzeug 165/1 (Special Purpose Vehicle 165/1, abbreviated Sd.Kfz. 165/1). After a series of tests, the Sd.Kfz. 165/1 was accepted by the Wehrmacht in early January 1940. In 1941, Krupp built prototype vehicles armed with the 105 mm leichte Feldhaubitze 18/1 L/28 (light field howitzer 18/1 L/28, abbreviated leFH 18/1 L/28) cannon based on a modified Panzer IV chassis. The prototypes were fitted with a smaller six-cylinder Maybach HL66P engine, which had a power capacity of 188 hp (140 kW). Although 200 vehicles were ordered, Krupp completed only 10 prototypes in the final four months of 1942. These saw service on the Eastern Front.

Designed by Kampfflieger, here produced in a special edition by CGS in ABS-L

1/144 AH-64 Apache Helicopter - Zvezda

1/144 AH-64 Apache Helicopter - Zvezda
First sight of the new Apache from Zvezda. The price is more than is 2-3 times the cost of the aircraft released so for. So unless they have upped their game on the quality and detailing of the kits this seems a bit overpriced. On this basis  it will be cheaper to by the Revell versions (although, I concede that might not be up to the rigours that wargaming subjects a model to?) http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/ZVE7408   Lets hope this is a pricing error on the hannants site?

The other recent 'Art of Tactic' wargaming series aircraft kits come out from Zvezda have been very reasonable. Interestingly they seem to be branding the cold war series items as "Hot War".
